A vulnerability has been found in Adobe Flash Player up to 16.0.0.296 (Multimedia Player Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was presented 02/05/2015 by Robert Swiecki (bilou) with Google Project Zero as APSB15-04 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at helpx.adobe.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-0322 since 12/01/2014. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The advisory points out:
Adobe has released security updates for Adobe Flash Player for Windows, Macintosh and Linux. These updates address vulnerabilities that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.
A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 81127 (Flash Player <= 16.0.0.296 Unspecified Code Execution (APSA15-02 / APSB15-04)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123259 (Adobe Flash Player Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (APSB15-04)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 19482.
