Novell openSUSE 11.4/12.1/12.2 Service cryptographic issue

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Novell openSUSE 11.4/12.1/12.2 (Operating System). Affected is an unknown code of the component Service. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-310. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

internal/cimxml/sax/NodeFactory.java in Standards-Based Linux Instrumentation for Manageability (SBLIM) Common Information Model (CIM) Client (aka sblim-cim-client2) before 2.1.12 computes hash values without restricting the ability to trigger hash collisions predictably, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via a crafted XML file.

The weakness was released 02/10/2014 by Juraj Somorovsky (Website). The advisory is shared for download at sourceforge.net. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2328 since 04/19/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68564 (Oracle Linux 6 : sblim-cim-client2 (ELSA-2012-0987)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120323 (Red Hat Update for sblim-cim-client2 (RHSA-2012:0987)).

Upgrading to version 11.4 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (68564), SecurityFocus (BID 54119†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-35416†). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
