A vulnerability was found in Poppler 0.24.0/0.24.1/0.24.2/0.24.3 (Document Reader Software). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function openTempFile of the component xpdf. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a link following vulnerability. The openTempFile function in goo/gfile.cc in Xpdf and Poppler 0.24.3 and earlier, when running on a system other than Unix, allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on temporary files with predictable names.
The weakness was presented 04/22/2014 as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-4472 since 06/12/2013.
