A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in VICIDIAL 2.7/2.8. This issue affects an unknown code of the file manager_send.php. The manipulation of the argument extension with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

VICIDIAL dialer (aka Asterisk GUI client) 2.8-403a, 2.7, 2.7RC1, and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in the extension parameter in an OriginateVDRelogin action to manager_send.php.

The weakness was shared 05/14/2014 by Adam Caudill (Website). The advisory is shared at adamcaudill.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-4468. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1202 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by Metasploit in Ruby and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 187 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:manager_send.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12815 (VICIDIAL Multiple Security Vulnerabilities).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
