A vulnerability was found in AlienVault Open Source Security Information Management up to 4.5 (Information Management Software) and classified as very critical. The av-centerd SOAP service in AlienVault OSSIM before 4.8.0 allows remote attackers to create arbitrary files and execute arbitrary code via a crafted set_file request.
The weakness was disclosed 06/18/2014 by agix with Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is shared at zerodayinitiative.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-4151 since 06/12/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 76215 (AlienVault OSSIM 'av-centerd' set_file() Remote Code Execution), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12987 (AlienVault Multiple Security Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 4.6 eliminates this vulnerability.
