Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in pfSense 2.1.3 (Firewall Software). This affects some unknown functionality of the file pkg_mgr_install.php of the component Firmware. The manipulation of the argument downloadbackup with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in pfSense before 2.1.4 allow (1) remote attackers to read arbitrary .info files via a crafted path in the pkg parameter to pkg_mgr_install.php and allow (2) remote authenticated users to read arbitrary files via the downloadbackup parameter to system_firmware_restorefullbackup.php.
The weakness was released 07/02/2014 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at pfsense.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-4690 since 06/28/2014.
