A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Foundation Xen 4.4.0 (Virtualization Software). Affected by this issue is the function alloc_domain_struct. The alloc_domain_struct function in arch/arm/domain.c in Xen 4.4.x, when running on an ARM platform, does not properly initialize the structure containing the grant table pages for a domain, which allows local guest administrators to obtain sensitive information via the GNTTABOP_setup_table subhypercall.
The weakness was published 07/09/2014 by Julien Grall as XSA-101 as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is available at xenbits.xen.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-4022 since 06/11/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
