Google Chrome before 23.0.1271.91 does not properly perform a cast of an unspecified variable during handling of the INPUT element, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unknown other impact via a crafted HTML document.
The weakness was published 11/26/2012 by Abhishek Arya (Inferno) with Google Chrome Security Team as 51437 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at secunia.com. The public release has been coordinated with Google. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-5136 since 09/24/2012. The exploitability is told to be difficult. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 23.0.1271.91 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at google.com. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at trac.webkit.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
