A vulnerability was found in Dell SonicWall Scrutinizer 11.0.1 (Firewall Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function xcNetworkDetail. The manipulation of the argument xcNetworkDetail with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in Dell SonicWall Scrutinizer 11.0.1 allow remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the (1) selectedUserGroup parameter in a create new user request to cgi-bin/admin.cgi or the (2) user_id parameter in the changeUnit function, (3) methodDetail parameter in the methodDetail function, or (4) xcNetworkDetail parameter in the xcNetworkDetail function in d4d/exporters.php.
The weakness was shared 07/16/2014 by Brandon Perry (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at gist.github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-4977 since 07/16/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed by Metasploit in Ruby and been published 2 years after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k.
