The ssl_decrypt_buf function in library/ssl_tls.c in PolarSSL before 1.2.11 and 1.3.x before 1.3.8 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via vectors related to the GCM ciphersuites, as demonstrated using the Codenomicon Defensics toolkit.

The weakness was released 07/22/2014 by Paul (Website). The advisory is shared at polarssl.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-4911 since 07/11/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 76599 (Debian DSA-2981-1 : polarssl - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. Upgrading to version 1.2.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
