Details
A vulnerability was found in Diga plc Qt 4.8.3. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown function of the component XmlHttpRequest Object. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
The XMLHttpRequest object in Qt before 4.8.4 enables http redirection to the file scheme, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to force the read of arbitrary local files and possibly obtain sensitive information via a file: URL to a QML application.
The weakness was presented 11/30/2012 by Richard J.Moore and Peter Hartmann (WESTPOINT) with Westpoint/Research In Motion, Inc. as msg08108 as confirmed posting (Maillist). The advisory is available at mail-archive.com. The vendor was not involved in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-5624 since 10/24/2012. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 4 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74891 (openSUSE Security Update : libqt4 (openSUSE-SU-2013:0154-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165827 (SUSE Security Update for libqt4 (openSUSE-SU-2013:0143-1)).
Upgrading to version 4.8.4 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (80552), Tenable (74891), SecurityFocus (BID 56807†), OSVDB (88294†) and Secunia (SA51655†). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
