A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in OpenStack keystonemiddleware 1.0.0/1.1.0/1.1.1 (Cloud Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the file paste.ini. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. OpenStack keystonemiddleware (formerly python-keystoneclient) 0.x before 0.11.0 and 1.x before 1.2.0 disables certification verification when the "insecure" option is set in a paste configuration (paste.ini) file regardless of the value, which allows remote attackers to conduct man-in-the-middle attacks via a crafted certificate.
The weakness was presented 10/02/2014 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.launchpad.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-7144 since 09/22/2014. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 80660 (Oracle Solaris Third-Party Patch Update : keystone (cve_2014_7144_cryptographic_issues)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Solaris Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 196206 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Python-keystoneclient, Python-keystonemiddleware Vulnerabilities (USN-2705-1)).
Upgrading to version 1.1.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
