A vulnerability was found in RealNetworks RealPlayer 15.0.6.14 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been rated as critical. Buffer overflow in RealNetworks RealPlayer before 16.0.0.282 and RealPlayer SP 1.0 through 1.1.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted RealMedia file.
The weakness was released 12/14/2012 by suto as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at service.real.com. The public release was coordinated with RealNetworks. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-5691 since 10/29/2012. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
