A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Opera Web Browser 12.11 (Web Browser). This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Site Loading Requests Handler. Opera before 12.12 does not properly allocate memory for GIF images, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory overwrite) via a malformed image.
The weakness was released 12/18/2012 by Masato Kinugawa as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at opera.com. The public release was coordinated with Opera. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-6470 since 01/02/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
