Certificates.java in Not Yet Commons SSL before 0.3.15 does not properly verify that the server hostname matches a domain name in the subject s Common Name (CN) field of the X.509 certificate, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof SSL servers via an arbitrary valid certificate.

The weakness was shared 10/24/2014 by Arun Babu Neelicattu with Red Hat (Website). The advisory is available at juliusdavies.ca. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-3604 since 05/14/2014. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1600 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
