A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird up to 17.0 (Web Browser). This affects the function mozilla::TrackUnionStream::EndTrack. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The weakness was released 01/08/2013 by Jesse Ruderman, Christian Holler, Julian Seward and Scoobidiver (regenrecht) with TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative as MFSA 20123-01 as confirmed posting (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated with Mozilla. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-0749 since 01/02/2013. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a private exploit are known.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63543 (Firefox < 17.0.1 Multiple Vulnerabilities (Mac OS X)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
