The Compal Broadband Networks (CBN) CH6640E and CG6640E Wireless Gateway 1.0 with firmware CH6640-3.5.11.7-NOSH allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (disconnect all wifi clients) via a request to wirelessChannelStatus.html.
The weakness was disclosed 11/06/2014 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at xforce.iss.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-8657 since 11/06/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592.004 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed by LiquidWorm and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 10 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:wirelessChannelStatus.html it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
