A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Zoho ManageEngine Password Manager Pro up to 7.0. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file SQLAdvancedALSearchResult.cc. The manipulation of the argument SEARCH_ALL with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in ManageEngine Password Manager Pro (PMP) and Password Manager Pro Managed Service Providers (MSP) edition before 7.1 build 7105 allow remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the SEARCH_ALL parameter to (1) SQLAdvancedALSearchResult.cc or (2) AdvancedSearchResult.cc.
The weakness was presented 11/17/2014 by Pedro Ribeiro (Website). The advisory is shared at raw.githubusercontent.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-8499 since 10/28/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Pedro Ribeiro and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 7 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 80960 (ManageEngine Password Manager Pro 6.5 < 7.1 Build 7105 Blind SQL Injection), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123032 (ManageEngine Password Manager Pro Multiple SQL Injection Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 7.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
