Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the selection list in the filters in the Configuration Report page (adm_config_report.php) in MantisBT 1.2.13 through 1.2.17 allows remote administrators to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a crafted config option, a different vulnerability than CVE-2014-8987.
The weakness was released 11/24/2014 by Paul (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-8986 since 11/19/2014. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Required for exploitation is a authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. By approaching the search of inurl:adm_config_report.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 80401 (Debian DSA-3120-1 : mantis - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123135 (Debian Security Update for mantis (DSA 3120-1)).
