Citrix Xen up to 4.2.1 intremap.c set_msi_source_id config

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-16. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

Xen 4.2.x, 4.1.x, and 4.0, when using Intel VT-d for PCI passthrough, does not properly configure VT-d when supporting a device that is behind a legacy PCI Bridge, which allows local guests to cause a denial of service to other guests by injecting an interrupt.

The weakness was disclosed 01/09/2013 with Xen.org Security Team as confirmed advisory (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-5634 since 10/24/2012. The attack needs to be approached locally. A single authentication is needed for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.004.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 79493 (OracleVM 3.1 : xen (OVMSA-2013-0001)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family OracleVM Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166475 (OpenSuSE Security Update for xen up to xsa-47 (openSUSE-SU-2013:0912-1)).

Applying the patch xsa33-4.1.patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (81115), Tenable (79493), SecurityFocus (BID 57223†), OSVDB (89058†) and Secunia (SA51734†). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
