A vulnerability was found in Revive Adserver up to 3.0.4 (Advertising Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function XML_RPC_cd in the library lib/pear/XML/RPC.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory allocation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-789. The product allocates memory based on an untrusted, large size value, but it does not ensure that the size is within expected limits, allowing arbitrary amounts of memory to be allocated. The XML_RPC_cd function in lib/pear/XML/RPC.php in Revive Adserver before 3.0.6 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU and memory consumption) via a crafted XML-RPC request, aka an XML Entity Expansion (XEE) attack.
The weakness was disclosed 12/19/2014 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at revive-adserver.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-8875 since 11/14/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 3.0.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
