A vulnerability was found in Revive Adserver up to 3.0.4 (Advertising Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function XML_RPC_cd in the library lib/pear/XML/RPC.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory allocation vulnerability. The XML_RPC_cd function in lib/pear/XML/RPC.php in Revive Adserver before 3.0.6 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU and memory consumption) via a crafted XML-RPC request, aka an XML Entity Expansion (XEE) attack.

The weakness was disclosed 12/19/2014 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at revive-adserver.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-8875 since 11/14/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
