Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in IPswitch WhatsUp Gold 1.0.0.24 (Network Management Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Directory traversal vulnerability in the TFTP Server 1.0.0.24 in Ipswitch WhatsUp Gold allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the Filename field of an RRQ operation.

The weakness was shared 12/27/2014 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-4722 since 12/10/2011. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
