CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Oracle Fusion Middleware 9.2.4/10.0.2/10.3.5/10.3.6/12.1.1 (Middleware). This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component WebLogic Server. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the properties that are required to process the data safely and correctly. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

Oracle Glassfish 2.1.1, 3.0.1, and 3.1.1, as used in Communications Server 2.0, Sun Java System Application Server 8.1 and 8.2, and possibly other products, computes hash values for form parameters without restricting the ability to trigger hash collisions predictably, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) by sending many crafted parameters, aka Oracle security ticket S0104869.

The weakness was shared 01/15/2013 by Christian Mehlmauer with Oracle as cpujan2013-1515902 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at oracle.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-5035 since 12/29/2011. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by Christian Mehlmauer and been published before and not just after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 58090 (Oracle GlassFish Server 2.1.1 < 2.1.1.15 / 3.0.1 < 3.0.1.5 / 3.1.1 < 3.1.1.2 Hash Collision DoS), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Web Servers. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 185006 (HP-UX Running Java Remote Unauthorized Access Vulnerability (HPSBUX02784)).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 11994.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (72015), Exploit-DB (18305), Tenable (58090), SecurityFocus (BID 51410†) and Secunia (SA48589†). Additional details are provided at isc.sans.edu. The entries VDB-4564, VDB-4560, VDB-4566 and VDB-4559 are related to this item.
