A vulnerability was found in Pixabay Images up to 2.2. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file pixabay-images.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in pixabay-images.php in the Pixabay Images plugin before 2.4 for WordPress allows remote attackers to write to arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the q parameter.
The weakness was released 01/27/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at wordpress.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-1365 since 01/27/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. Upgrading to version 2.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
