A vulnerability was found in FluxBB up to 1.5.6 (Forum Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file install.php. The manipulation of the argument install_lang with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in install.php in FluxBB before 1.5.8 allows remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local install.php files via a .. (dot dot) in the install_lang parameter.
The weakness was released 02/03/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at htbridge.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-9574 since 01/07/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
