A vulnerability was found in Citrix Netscaler 10.5-50-1.9 (Network Management Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part of the component NITRO SDK. The manipulation of the argument file_name with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

The weakness was disclosed 03/19/2015 as confirmed mailinglist post (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-2838 since 04/03/2015. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.

A public exploit has been developed by Han Sahin and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11577 (Citrix NetScaler Nitro API Multiple Remote Vulnerabilities).

Upgrading to version 10.5 build 52.3nc eliminates this vulnerability.
