Mozilla Firefox before 36.0.4, Firefox ESR 31.x before 31.5.3, and SeaMonkey before 2.33.1 allow remote attackers to bypass the Same Origin Policy and execute arbitrary JavaScript code with chrome privileges via vectors involving SVG hash navigation.
The weakness was published 03/22/2015 by Mariusz Mlynski as MFSA 2015-28 as confirmed security advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-0818 since 01/07/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 157070 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Security Update for firefox (ELSA-2015-0718)).
Upgrading to version 36.0.4 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 19607.
