A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel (Operating System) (affected version not known). This affects the function sys_sendto/sys_recvfrom. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-264. This is going to have an impact on integrity.
The weakness was disclosed 03/23/2015 by Petr Matousek as confirmed mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-2686 since 03/23/2015. The exploitability is told to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 157500 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Security Update for Unbreakable Enterprise kernel (ELSA-2017-3597)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (101742), SecurityFocus (BID 73286†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-49185†). The entries VDB-74103 and VDB-90515 are pretty similar. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
