A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Exponent CMS up to 2.2.1 (Content Management System). Affected is some unknown functionality of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument src with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-79. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Exponent CMS before 2.1.4 patch 6, 2.2.x before 2.2.3 patch 9, and 2.3.x before 2.3.1 patch 4 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) PATH_INFO, the (2) src parameter in a none action to index.php, or the (3) "First Name" or (4) "Last Name" field to users/edituser.
The weakness was shared 02/19/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at exponentcms.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-8690 since 11/09/2014. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Upgrading to version 2.2.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
