Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Codoforum 2.5.1 (Forum Software). Affected by this issue is the function sanitize of the file index.php of the component Filter. The manipulation of the argument path with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

The sanitize function in Codoforum 2.5.1 does not properly implement filtering for directory traversal sequences, which allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the path parameter to index.php.

The weakness was published 03/23/2015 (Website). The advisory is available at codoforum.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-9261 since 12/04/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy.
