A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in PuTTY up to 0.51 (Connectivity Software). This issue affects some unknown processing. The (1) ssh2_load_userkey and (2) ssh2_save_userkey functions in PuTTY 0.51 through 0.63 do not properly wipe SSH-2 private keys from memory, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information by reading the memory.
The weakness was shared 03/27/2015 by Patrick (Website). The advisory is shared at chiark.greenend.org.uk. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-2157 since 02/28/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

It is assigned to the family FreeBSD Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123511 (PuTTY Local Information Disclosure Vulnerability).
