The Multicast DNS (mDNS) responder in Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) before 3.1 inadvertently responds to unicast queries with source addresses that are not link-local, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (traffic amplification) or obtain potentially sensitive information via port-5353 UDP packets to the Avahi component.
The weakness was released 04/01/2015 by Chad Seaman (Website). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-2809 since 03/31/2015. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
