Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in IBM WebSphere Application Server up to 6.1.0.45/7.0.0.25 (Application Server Software). This affects some unknown processing of the component Transaction Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability in the portlet subsystem in the administrative console in IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 6.1 before 6.1.0.47 and 7.0 before 7.0.0.27 allows remote attackers to hijack the authentication of arbitrary users for requests that insert cross-site scripting (XSS) sequences.
The weakness was released 01/23/2013 as 81014 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at xforce.iss.net. The public release was coordinated with IBM. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-0460 since 12/16/2012. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available.
It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72062 (IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.0 < Fix Pack 8 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Web Servers. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 124156 (IBM WebSphere Application Server Multiple Vulnerabilities (swg21651880)).
