A vulnerability has been found in Apple MacOS X up to 10.10.2 (Operating System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component IOHIDFamily. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

IOHIDFamily in Apple iOS before 8.3, Apple OS X before 10.10.3, and Apple TV before 7.2 allows physically proximate attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted HID device.

The weakness was disclosed 04/08/2015 by Andrew Church (lokihardt@ASRT) with Zimperium Mobile Security Labs as HT204659 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-1095 since 01/16/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The advisory points out:

A malicious HID device may be able to cause arbitrary code execution

A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 82712 (Apple TV < 7.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Misc.. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123515 (Apple Mac OS X v10.10.3 and Security Update 2015-004 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2015-04-08-2)).

Upgrading to version 10.10.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
