A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Apple MacOS X up to 10.10.2 (Operating System). This affects some unknown functionality of the component IOHIDFamily. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The IOHIDFamily kernel extension in Apple iOS before 8 and Apple TV before 7 lacks proper bounds checking on write operations, which allows attackers to execute arbitrary code in the kernel s context via a crafted application.
The weakness was disclosed 04/08/2015 by Felipe Andres Manzano (cunzhang) with Adlab of Venustech as HT204659 as confirmed advisory (Website). Upgrading to version 10.10.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
