Clang in LLVM, as used in Apple Xcode before 6.3, performs incorrect register allocation in a way that triggers stack storage for stack cookie pointers, which might allow context-dependent attackers to bypass a stack-guard protection mechanism via crafted input to an affected C program.
The weakness was presented 04/10/2015 with Apple (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-3027 since 04/08/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370200 (Apple Xcode v6.3 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2015-04-08-5)).
Upgrading to version 6.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
