A vulnerability was found in SearchBlox up to 8.1 and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown processing of the file admin/uploadImage.html of the component Upload Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a unrestricted upload vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-434. The product allows the attacker to upload or transfer files of dangerous types that can be automatically processed within the product's environment. Unrestricted file upload vulnerability in admin/uploadImage.html in SearchBlox before 8.2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by uploading a file with an executable extension and the image/jpeg content type, a different vulnerability than CVE-2013-3590.
The weakness was released 04/18/2015 with Qualys (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-0968 since 01/10/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1608.002 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
By approaching the search of inurl:admin/uploadImage.html it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123539 (SearchBlox Server Multiple Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 8.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
