A vulnerability was found in Apple Watch OS 1.0 (Smartwatch Operating System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component FontParser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. FontParser in Apple iOS before 8.3 and Apple OS X before 10.10.3 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted font file.
The weakness was disclosed 05/19/2015 by Marc Schoenefeld as HT204870 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-1093 since 01/16/2015. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 82699 (Mac OS X 10.10.x < 10.10.3 Multiple Vulnerabilities (FREAK)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123515 (Apple Mac OS X v10.10.3 and Security Update 2015-004 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2015-04-08-2)).
Upgrading to version 1.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
