Details
A vulnerability was found in Apple Watch OS 1.0 (Smartwatch Operating System) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Kernel. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
The kernel in Apple iOS before 8.3, Apple OS X before 10.10.3, and Apple TV before 7.2 does not properly handle TCP headers, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to cause a denial of service via unspecified vectors.
The weakness was released 05/19/2015 by Andrey Khudyakov and Maxim Zhuravlev (lokihardt@ASRT) with Kaspersky Lab as HT204870 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-1102 since 01/16/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 82712 (Apple TV < 7.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
