A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Microsoft Windows up to Vista (Operating System). This affects some unknown processing of the component Kernel Mode Driver. The kernel-mode drivers in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 and R2 SP2, Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 Gold and R2, and Windows RT Gold and 8.1 allow local users to gain privileges or cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and system crash) via a crafted application, aka "Win32k Null Pointer Dereference Vulnerability."
The weakness was presented 06/10/2015 by Nils with Google Project Zero as MS15-061 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2015-1721 since 02/17/2015. An attack has to be approached locally. Required for exploitation is a authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k.
