Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack SP3 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Office document, aka "Microsoft Office Memory Corruption Vulnerability."
The weakness was published 06/10/2015 by Ben Hawkes with Google Project Zero as MS15-059 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-1759 since 02/17/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84055 (MS15-059: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office Could Allow Remote Code Execution (3064949)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110256 (Microsoft Office Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS15-059)).
Applying the patch MS15-059 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 19923.
