A vulnerability was found in D-Link DIR-300 and DIR-600 2.13/2.14b01 (Router Operating System) and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file DevInfo.txt. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability (Stored). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality.

The bug was discovered 12/14/2012. The weakness was presented 02/04/2013 by Michael Messner (m1k3) with s3cur1ty as m1adv2013-003 as confirmed posting (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at s3cur1ty.de. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

A public exploit has been developed by m-1-k-3 and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 52 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. By approaching the search of inurl:DevInfo.txt it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

Upgrading to version Firmware 2.14b01 or 2.15b01 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
