Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Diga plc Qt 4.4.0/5.0.0. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component Shared Memory Block Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-264. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The QSharedMemory class in Qt 5.0.0, 4.8.x before 4.8.5, 4.7.x before 4.7.6, and other versions including 4.4.0 uses weak permissions (world-readable and world-writable) for shared memory segments, which allows local users to read sensitive information or modify critical program data, as demonstrated by reading a pixmap being sent to an X server.
The weakness was released 02/05/2013 by Tim Brown (Portcullis) with Portcullis Computer Security Ltd. as 9759 as not defined bulletin (Website). The advisory is available at permalink.gmane.org. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0254 since 12/06/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 68 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68795 (Oracle Linux 6 : qt (ELSA-2013-0669)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165763 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update for libqt4 (SUSE-SU-2013:0457-1)).
Upgrading to version 4.7.6 , 4.8.5 or 5.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at qt.gitorious.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
