A vulnerability has been found in Cisco Linksys E1500/E2500 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the file apply.cgi. The manipulation of the argument wait_time with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The bug was discovered 10/19/2012. The weakness was shared 02/05/2013 by Michael Messner (m1k3) with s3cur1ty as m1adv2013-004 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at s3cur1ty.de. The public release happened without involvement of Cisco. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-2678 since 03/22/2013. The attack can be launched remotely. The successful exploitation requires a single authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by m-1-k-3 and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
