Admin Framework in Apple OS X before 10.10.4 does not properly restrict the location of writeconfig clients, which allows local users to obtain root privileges by moving and then modifying Directory Utility.

The weakness was disclosed 06/30/2015 by Emil Kvarnhammar with Zero Day Initiative as HT204942 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Apple. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-3673 since 05/07/2015. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

A public exploit has been developed by Metasploit and been published 3 months after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional.
