VMware Workstation, Player and Horizon View Client for Windows do not set a discretionary access control list (DACL) for one of their processes. This may allow a local attacker to elevate their privileges and execute code in the security context of the affected process.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84804 (VMware Horizon View Client 5.x < 5.4.2 DACL Privilege Escalation (VMSA-2015-0005)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123711 (VMware Workstation And Player Security Update (VMSA-2015-0005)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
