Microsoft Excel 2010 SP2, Excel 2013 SP1, Excel 2013 RT SP1, Excel Viewer 2007 SP3, Excel Services on SharePoint Server 2010 SP2, and Excel Services on SharePoint Server 2013 SP1 allow remote attackers to bypass the ASLR protection mechanism via a crafted spreadsheet, aka "Microsoft Excel ASLR Bypass Vulnerability."

The weakness was disclosed 07/14/2015 (Website). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-2375 since 03/19/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 84739 (MS15-070: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office Could Allow Remote Code Execution (3072620)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110257 (Microsoft Office Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities (MS15-070)).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 20152.
