A vulnerability was found in cups-filters up to 1.0.69 (Printing Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function WriteProlog of the file filter/texttopdf.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Heap-based buffer overflow in the WriteProlog function in filter/texttopdf.c in texttopdf in cups-filters before 1.0.70 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a small line size in a print job.
The weakness was shared 07/14/2015 with Red Hat (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-3258 since 04/10/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
