A vulnerability was found in Linksys WAG200G Firmware 1.01.06. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the file setup.cgi. The manipulation of the argument policy_name with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Impacted is integrity.

The bug was discovered 10/01/2012. The weakness was published 02/08/2013 by Michael Messner (m1k3) with s3cur1ty as m1adv2013-016 as confirmed bulletin (Website). The advisory is shared at s3cur1ty.de. The public release happened without involvement of Linksys. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
