Details
A vulnerability has been found in Wind River VxWorks up to 5.5.0/6.7.1.0/6.8.2/6.9.4.3/7 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part of the component TCP Initial Sequence Number Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Wind River VxWorks before 5.5.1, 6.5.x through 6.7.x before 6.7.1.1, 6.8.x before 6.8.3, 6.9.x before 6.9.4.4, and 7.x before 7 ipnet_coreip 1.2.2.0, as used on Schneider Electric SAGE RTU devices before J2 and other devices, does not properly generate TCP initial sequence number (ISN) values, which makes it easier for remote attackers to spoof TCP sessions by predicting an ISN value.
The weakness was released 08/04/2015 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at ics-cert.us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2015-3963 since 05/12/2015. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
